Community Education
The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation is a State-Approved Sickle Cell Counseling Program
Our goal is to promote accurate and appropriate information, education, counseling, testing and treatment services to infants, children, and adults with sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait and related hemoglobinopathies.
We provide Sickle Cell Disease educational sessions to the general community in the form of in-person presentations, virtual presentations, and one-on-one sessions.

Newborn Screening Hemoglobin Trait Counseling and Testing
The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation (SCDF) is a certified sickle cell trait counseling center. In partnership with the California Department of Public Health, Division of Genetic Disease Screening-Newborn Screening Program the SCDF provides parents of infants identified with sickle cell trait, hemoglobin C trait and hemoglobin D trait FREE trait counseling and family testing.
Sickle Cell Trait/Hemoglobin Trait Counseling
State Certified Sickle Cell Counselors provide direct counseling to persons with sickle cell trait, hemoglobin C trait and hemoglobin D trait and/or to individuals interested in learning about sickle cell trait and other hemoglobin traits.

The State of California Department of Public Health Sickle Cell Counselor Training and Certification Program consists of four components:
Module I: Introduction to Sickle Cell Disease, Sickle Cell Trait and Common Hemoglobinopathies Course
Module II: Advanced Sickle Cell Training
Sickle Cell Counselor Internship Program
